D'importation récente en France, le "wokisme" ne cesse d'étendre son emprise, en particulier à l'Université et dans le monde culturel. Partant de louables intentions de lutte contre les discriminations, il engendre des pratiques parfois problématiques. Il flirte alors avec des tentations totalitaires qui rappellent un passé stalinien mal connu des nombreux jeunes tentés par cette mouvance perçue comme progressiste.
Or ils en ignorent les risques pour les valeurs démocratiques fondamentales : l'universalisme, la rationalité scientifique, la liberté d'expression, la laïcité. C'est pourquoi la critique du wokisme ne relève pas d'une pensée conservatrice ou réactionnaire mais de la défense du modèle républicain. Exemples à l'appui, Nathalie Heinich éclaire ce phénomène et donne des clés pour en comprendre les fondements.
Et elle appelle à la vigilance contre certaines dérives du wokisme vers un totalitarisme militant, un "totalitarisme d'atmosphère" , non étatique certes mais néanmoins puissant.
